The following members of the CAPELCO Board of Directors, under the leadership of BOD President Dir. (Engr.) Salvador A. Asis, recently participated in a sponsored educational tour of First Gen Corporation\u2019s Wind-Solar Farm located in Burgos, Ilocos Norte, from June 3 to 5, 2025: Dir. Emmanuel M. Oquendo, Dir. Gilbert G. Upod, Dir. Roel Roque A. Martinez, Dir. (Engr.) Edmund D. Beluso, Dir. Moises M. Paligumba, Jr., Dir. Mitchelle John B. Patricio, and Dir. (Engr.) Jovencio A. Villagracia.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The tour aimed to provide valuable insights into the operations of the Energy Development Corporation Burgos Wind Project (EDCBWP), a subsidiary of First Gen and one of the largest wind power producers in the Philippines. The EDCBWP spans 680 hectares across three barangays in Burgos, Ilocos Norte. The project features 50 large-scale Vestas V90 3-MW wind turbines and a 115-kV transmission line that connects the wind farm to the Laoag substation, generating a total of 150 MW. The CAPELCO delegates also had the opportunity to explore the expansive wind power facility.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Currently, CAPELCO holds a substantial power supply agreement with Green Core Geothermal, Inc. (GCGI), another First Gen subsidiary. This contract involves 15 megawatts, accounting for 33.79% of CAPELCO\u2019s total power consumption.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The site visit also included participants from CAPELCO\u2019s sister cooperatives: Iloilo III Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ILECO III) and Aklan Electric Cooperative, Inc. (AKELCO). The tour served as a valuable opportunity for all involved to gain deeper insight into renewable energy operations and best practices within the industry. This collaborative initiative is expected to strengthen partnerships among the cooperatives and deepen their shared commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
