CAPELCO representatives attended and participated in the ongoing House Energy Committee Hearing either virtually or through physical presence in Congress. This committee hearing was prompted by the widespread power interruptions in Capiz, Iloilo, Antique, Aklan, Guimaras and Negros Occidental that happened on January 2, 20224 and lasted for almost 4 days thereafter presumably because of the collapse of the grid and emergency shut down of power plants in Panay. The incident has attracted the attention of the country’s lawmakers and the Senate and House hearings currently being conducted is to know the real circumstances behind the outage and what policy reform can be undertaken to address the concern and prevent it from happening in the future. The House Committee on Energy is chaired by Congressman Lord Allan Jay Q. Velasco.
Attending virtually from CAPELCO Board Room are Acting General Manager Engr. Edgar D. Diaz, Board President Engr. Salvador A. Asis and Director Engr. Edmund D. Beluso and Director Roel Roque A. Martinez.
Physically attending at Congress is TSD Manager Engr. Don D. Baticados along with representatives from the electric cooperatives in Western Visayas.
